Gastroenterology For General Surgeons

Abstract

In cancer patients, surveillance aims to identify curable recurrent disease after treatment. In patients with a premalignant condition, surveillance is performed to identify progression of the disease and to allow for intervention prior to malignant transformation.

Surveillance intervals and procedures vary for the different organs of the gastrointestinal tract and are addressed separately in this chapter.
