Abstract
Orciprenaline is a bronchodilator used for the treatment of asthma and COPD. The other name for orciprenaline is metaproterenol. It has a β2 selective effect with no effect on alpha receptors. It stimulates the smooth muscle in the bronchiole, uterus and arterioles supplying the skeletal muscle. Orciprenaline is a more specific β 2 agonist than isoproterenol hence causes less tachycardia and hypotension at equipotent doses.
