Abstract
We have now reached the third and final transition in the evolution of human consciousness, according to Donald’s (1991) theory, the transition from the Mythic Mind to the Theoretic Mind, shown in Fig. 8.1. But as in the other two transitions, the seed of the Theoretic Mind was present long before in the Mythic Mind. The communal myths of the Mythic Mind we described in the last chapter formed a paradigmatic layer to human consciousness, enabling humans to frame what they experienced in more than a linear narrative. The Theoretic Mind also has this paradigmatic frame. But there is something very different, something very new in the Theoretic Mind consciousness.
