Abstract
If the ophthalmology department is situated in a multidisciplinary institution, other departments frequently request an ophthalmic opinion on patients presenting in different disciplines. A timely response is appreciated to expedite patient management. The most frequent referrals are from medicine for the elderly and rheumatology. Opinions regarding drug toxicity risks and monitoring schedules are best managed through the rapid access service.
