Abstract
This chapter covers conditions which are painful and require early treatment for the sake of comfort, and may have a more gradual onset of symptoms, or a less profound impact on the patient. Various inflammatory conditions including ulcers due to bacterial, viral, amoebic and fungal infection as well as non infective causes are described. Acute uveitis is discussed and for completion chronic presentations of uveitis are included. Acute onset neurological problems leading to diplopia also fall into the same day management category. Other conditions included are allergic eye disease, blepharokeratitis and scleritis. The techniques for creating a Gunderson flap and for inducing ptosis using botulinus toxin are described. An overview of immunosuppressive agents is tabulated.
