Abstract
The flexion fold of the interphalangeal joint (IP joint) of the hallux, is only rarely subject to pressure in the physiological situation of a healthy foot (e.g. in barefoot climbing). Therefore it is not equipped to withstand pressure and ulcers may emerge easily if this region is put under stress.
