Abstract
The outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases (related to natural, accidental, or intentional releases of pathogens) are a major concern for CBRNe experts. The aim of this work is to test two innovative approaches to simulate: (a) the natural diffusion of an outbreak of measles using the Spatiotemporal Epidemiological Modeler (STEM) software and (b) the intentional release of anthrax spores in confined environments using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) COMSOL Multiphysics® Modeling Software. The two approaches were compared in order to verify their consistency with the scenarios for further analysis; the preliminary evidence from this work will be applied to the development of an interdisciplinary master’s thesis in medical biotechnology based on the merging of medicine, biology, and engineering.
