Abstract
The life of Galileo, one of the founding fathers of modern science, is full of genius, but also of discrepancies, inconsistencies and retractions all of which had already been noticed and documented by his contemporaries. Despite his designation as the “Columbus of the Skies” they were well aware that he was a devout Catholic throughout his life.
