Abstract
Dissection of extracranial arteries is one of the most important reasons of ischemic stroke in young people. A community-based study showed an incidence of neck vessel dissections of 2.6 per 100,000 per year. Dissections are most common between the ages of 35 and 50 years, with the peak of incidence occurs in the fifth decade of life (Schievink 2001).
