Abstract

In mathematics, uniqueness theorems are statements asserting that if a certain object exists, then it is unique. In other words a uniqueness theorem excludes that a given problem may have more than one solution. From a logical point of view, the uniqueness issue is independent from the existence issue; the latter means that at least one solution to the problem actually exists. We deal with uniqueness proofs and some of their common features. The theorems that we are going to discuss have been chosen not because of their contents but to remark the logic underlying the proofs.
