Abstract
Welded joints in components or structures submitted to cyclic loading can fail by crack initiation and progression due to fatigue. Thus, they are critical features in the overall manufacturing of press cutting machines and display an important part of production costs. In this study, the decrease of throat thickness and weld penetration are analyzed in T-filleted joints. Overall, it is determined that throat reduction only represents a real challenge when weld penetration is fairly reduced. In order to obtain infinite fatigue life, a minimum 27 [%] weld penetration must be assured for a 6 [mm] throat, while in 8 [mm] throat designs only 15 [%] is required.
