Abstract

The main objective was to develop a script in Matlab which would allow for the segmentation of the three-dimensional surface images of the samples. The motifs of peaks and pits were segmented on surface images of test samples using a watershed segmentation algorithm implemented in Matlab. The same software was also used to calculate the values of parameters characterizing the individual motifs. A summary of the determined parameters made it possible to compare the test sample surfaces. In order to verify the obtained results and correctness, and thus verify the suitability of the developed script, segmentation was performed using MountainsMap Premium. The software was also used to generate a set of parameters relating to separated motifs, which were compared with the calculations made using the script. This stereometric analysis proves to be an effective method that can be successfully used for estimation of micro- and nano- topography by processing of stereometric data.
