Abstract

Abdominal wall hernias are not uncommon in pregnant patients. While the true incidence of hernia progression in this patient population remains unknown, a majority of women with a concomitant abdominal wall hernia at the time of pregnancy can be managed nonoperatively, with definitive repair occurring in the postpartum period. Because this is not an uncommon clinical scenario, surgeons should familiarize themselves with the evaluation and management of hernias in pregnant patients.
