Abstract
In this narrative, a glimpse of risk and value through professional (re)vision is shared. Explained is how, even as a youngster, I realized risk was necessary in order to obtain a different situation rather than that of low socioeconomic conditions in government subsidized housing. Leaving this condition to become a political scientist on Capitol Hill and later an academic is explored. Although, at times, a professional windy road with/in academia may be perceived as uncertain, such a perception only reinforces the need to know one’s worth and the willingness to take risk—even in the face of fear. Ending is a note on how lessons of valuing self are never ending, especially for women whose identities intersect with multiple traditionally marginalized communities.
