Abstract
At forty, in my fourth year as a professor and my sixth year of marriage to my partner, I met the first challenges of my life that I could not surmount through hard work and determination: my infant twins. I fought through discovering, and rejecting, and redefining who I was as a person, a wife, and a parent. In the process, I re-formed myself as a professor as I became able to see both my students and myself as imperfectly human.
