Abstract

A relativistic charge moving along a circular orbit emits synchrotron radiation. In this chapter we will calculate the intensity of the radiation in the limit \(\gamma \gg 1\). Using the Liénard–Wiechert potentials we first derive the fields at a large distance from the charge in the plane of the orbit and find the radiation spectrum. We then discuss angular and spectral distributions of the synchrotron radiation for arbitrary angles.
