Abstract
This chapter highlights the accomplishments and historical significance of the following four remaining African American boarding schools: the Laurinburg Institute (North Carolina), Pine Forge Academy (Pennsylvania), Piney Woods (Mississippi), and the Redemption Christian Academy (New York). The chapter also offers a critical analysis of the role boarding schools played in contributing to the growth and development of education in the African American community.
