Abstract
In this chapter, von Devivere explores the diverse understandings of work and meaning. The author explores the growing awareness for questioning the meaning of work and the what for of it; there are diverse definitions of meaningful work and of finding meaning in work. Von Devivere facilitates a better understanding of defining meaning as a means for achieving specific results or of Frankl’s and other experts’ understanding of meaning as man’s basic motivation or terminal value of its own. The chapter explores on the links between latest research findings and their implications for man’s inherent need for finding meaning in work, with freedom and responsibility.
