Abstract
The chapter sets a research agenda for studying translocal childhoods. The authors analyse translocal childhoods as ongoing and demanding processes. Firstly, the authors set the scene on the research they have carried out since 2010 in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Russia and the UK, as well as that carried out while on the move between various places in these countries. The chapter critically reviews the literature on childhood in mobility and migration and theorises the notion of ‘translocality’. The chapter unfolds in three main sub-themes: embodiment, infrastructures and agency. These significant concepts underpin the empirical research laid out in this book, with, in support, a presentation of the research contexts of East and North Europe. The chapter ends with a thorough discussion of the researchers’ methodological journey with translocal children and their families.
