Abstract

This chapter details the tumour-forming processes found in mucosal biopsy specimens and mucosal resection specimens of the terminal ileum. Tumour-forming processes are considered in terms of the general classification scheme used throughout this textbook, with the addition of lymphoid hyperplasia and endometriosis which cause particular differential diagnostic issues at this site. Various neoplasms are considered with a particular emphasis placed on mesenchymal tumours, especially inflammatory fibroid polyp, neuroendocrine tumours and haemopoietic tumours, which are a cause of diagnostic difficulty in the terminal ileum.
