Terminal Ileum: Inflammatory Patterns

Abstract

This chapter details the inflammatory reaction patterns found in mucosal biopsy specimens and mucosal resection specimens of the terminal ileum. Most attention is given to the finding of acute or active chronic inflammation with or without erosion. The features of Crohn's disease are discussed aa are the various caused for granulomas at this site. Finally, infrequent findings such as intraepithelial lymphocytosis and subepithelial collagen deposition are discussed following the general classification scheme of this ook. .
