Abstract

Patients with gastric cardiac cancer are usually asymptomatic, especially at the early stage. The misdiagnosis rate was reported to be over 40% because of the lack of appropriate evaluation. Since upper endoscopy with biopsies remains the most important diagnostic tool for discovery of this cancer, it is crucial for endoscopists to perform a systematic thorough examination with biopsies. Once diagnosed pathologically, the patient with this cancer needs to be worked up for clinical staging, especially for risk of nodal metastasis to determine the best management strategy.
