Abstract
As I sit here and look at this thing called my curriculum vitae, I see only words. Words that are supposed to be a description of my life’s journey. But there are so many words that are not there, sacrifice, fear, fatigue, racism, sisterhood, joy, and guilt. That is when it becomes clear that this document is only a small part of who or what I am. These missing words describe the real journey. This is what I want my children to know about, and this is what I want the world to remember: what it takes to be a chemist and a mother not only to my biological offspring but to the children of science.

Acknowledgments
It goes without saying that without the support of my husband Klaus and my children Klaus Bryant and Cornelia, this work would not have been inspired. Without the protection, participation, and support of my tribe, nothing would be achieved. Without my creator, I would not exist.
