Abstract
Circular burns and scars of the lower extremity constrict soft tissues of the knee joint and the distal segment of the lower extremity, severely restricting joints’ motion and causing tissue hypotrophy. The scars in the popliteal zone suffer from intense tension during walking, resulting in tears and progressing to non-healing ulcers. If the passive range of motion in the knee is preserved, then scars can be excised through the intermediate layer and the wound covered with skin graft. In cases of intra-articular restriction of complete extension, scar excision and grafting are combined with the use of an orthopedic external fixation/traction device.
