Abstract
Total elbow contracture is a result of vast burns and scars covering the entire flexion (two lateral and medial) surfaces. Scars often injure the extremity circularly and involve the wrist and hand. Scars tightly surround the joint and neighboring regions without a fold. For the most part the scars are rough, thick, solid, red, and painful. Such contractures cannot be treated with local tissues. A regional flap can cover only the joint zone; normal skin among scars is cosmetically unacceptable. However, functional and cosmetic effects can be achieved by vast mature scar excision through intermediate layer and wound resurfacing with whole skin transplants.
