Abstract
An ectopic pregnancy is the occurrence of a pregnancy in a location other than the body of the uterus. The aim of prompt diagnosis is to prevent rupture as this can have catastrophic sequel and is an acute surgical emergency. Management can be medical or surgical though spontaneous resolution can occasionally occur. A miscarriage on the other hand is relatively common and up to 1 in 5 pregnancies can culminate in a miscarriage. This chapter deals with litigation related to the pitfalls of diagnosis and management of these conditions which affect early pregnancy.
