Abstract
Diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy has replaced many traditional gynaecological procedures over the last few decades for the investigation and treatment of a number of common gynaecological conditions. Although a relatively simple procedure, complications can occur, particularly during and after operative hysteroscopy. Thorough preoperative assessment to determine risk factors for complications and appropriate counselling are important steps to reduce possibility of litigation. Procedures should be performed by an accredited/trained surgeon. Recognition of complications when they occur and appropriate management are key to avoid litigation. Good documentation of the procedure and monitorisation of fluid balance are of paramount importance.
