Abstract

This work analyzes the properties of four compositions of polymer mortar through flexural strength, water absorption, and abrasive wear. For this study, the epoxy resin type used as binder was used due to its high chemical and corrosion resistance, hardness, flexibility, good mechanical strength, and outstanding adhesion to most substrates. The binder was used in different combinations, producing four coating chemical compositions; they are (1) Quartz M10, Quartz 307, fly ash, and epoxy resin; (2) sand crushing, gravel dust, and epoxy resin filler; (3) gravel dust without the 2.4 mm and 4.8 mm fractions, fly ash filler, and epoxy resin; and (4) gravel dust without the 2.4 mm and 4.8 mm fractions and with gravel dust filler and epoxy resin. Through analysis of the results, it was observed that the studied floors reached values of up to 40 MPa for flexural strength. The water absorption was 0.17%, showing the effectiveness of the compositions, since a coating is considered as high performance coating when absorption is 0.5%. In addition, the results also showed high abrasive resistance.
