Abstract

This presents the texts by those whose voices were excluded or marginalised in the process of publishing autobiographical accounts of the war: women, especially nurses; soldiers from the subject peoples of the Empires; and those who tried to avoid military service—‘shirkers’. It considers why they were marginalised.
