Abstract
Popigai impact structure with a diameter of 100 km is located in the north of Siberia and originated about 35 million years ago within the platform region with the Early Precambrian crystalline basement on which lies a thin sedimentary cover (Mesoproterozoic to Late Mesozoic). A wide range of allogenic lithic breccias and impactites filling it with a total thickness of up to 2 km, all of them are well preserved against erosion. The structure has a complex multi-ring structure and is characterized by negative gravitational and magnetic fields.
