Abstract
Heart failure (HF) is common in ACHD with a life prevalence of >30% in patients with complex lesions. It represents one of the two leading causes of death in this population and continues to increase as patients age. Patients with functionally univentricular hearts, systemic right ventricle, and tetralogy of Fallot are at highest risk of developing HF. With more patients with complex heart disease surviving to older age, HF is likely to become epidemic in this population. This chapter focuses on epidemiology of HF in ACHD patients, highlighting subgroups of patients at particular risk of HF, and attempts to prognosticate future changes in the prevalence of the condition.
