Abstract
Besides training, careful and stepwise preparation as well as treatment algorithms are mandatory to make your lithotripsy technique as effective and reproducible as possible. Proper therapy planning requires the exact radiologic identification of patient’s stone burden in terms of number of stones, stone size and stone localization. Identifying those parameters will allow you to select the most appropriate therapy plan. Furthermore, treatment strategy is crucial since you only have a limited number of shock waves available per therapy session due to the inherent risk of bleeding complications.
Chapter 2 includes a broad variety of clinical situations that you may encounter including daily routine, challenging cases but also cases for experts only. Comparable to a cookbook, you identify your patient’s situation, pick the appropriate therapy plan and will thereafter be guided with tips and tricks through the shock wave lithotripsy procedure.
