Abstract
The measurement of important factors about the world around us has enjoyed a long and colorful history. The overall development and evolution of measurement systems is explored in this chapter, along with new perspectives to place measurement and units in an historical context. This chapter sets out the conceptual arrangement for the balance of this book.
