Abstract

Without the mining of the Posidonia Shale of the Dotternhausen and Dormettingen area, the treasures of the past—exceptionally well-preserved 180 m.y. old fossils—would still lie dormant in the ground. For several decades the most beautiful and important finds have been collected and prepared. They are displayed in a particular museum in a unique ambience of the Werkforum, a fossil museum integrated in a cement plant of Holcim (Süddeutschland) GmbH.

The main focus of the museum is on Posidonia Shale finds but it also provides an overview on fossils from other layers of the Jurassic and on geological features of Southwest Germany.
