Abstract
The demands of caregiving can be overwhelming, especially if the caregiver receives little support from their family, friends, or healthcare providers. If the stress of caregiving continues unchecked, caregiver burnout is often a result. Caregiver burnout is the state where a caregiver’s health, relationships, and state of mind are negatively impacted. Although we typically think of family members as the ones who are at risk for caregiver burnout, healthcare providers including physicians and nurses are also at risk. The following section provides a quick overview of the prevalence, assessment, consequences, and possible interventions for caregiver burnout.
