The China International Famine Relief Commission
1921 saw the beginning of efforts to develop rural credit cooperatives and credit societies. The China International Famine Relief Commission was then dealing with famine across China, and as part of its reconstruction efforts started supporting the idea of cooperative credit. It was from these initiatives that much of the efforts towards cooperative credit in the Republican era can be credited. This chapter steps through the developments of cooperative credit in Germany and how these relate to cooperative credit in China, and the role that the China International Famine Relief Commission played in its development.
