Abstract
This chapter discusses the lessons learned from the analysis of architectural and urban dimensions of the ethnic conflict in Sarajevo, during and after the siege of 1992–1996. It reflects theoretically on the research findings and provides new insights into the concepts that have emerged in the current literature to theorize the mutually constitutive relationship between the city and the war. It also provides insights for architectural and urban design practice about forms of reconstruction, the representation of identity and construction of urban memory without producing trauma and prolonging conflict. The chapter reflects on how these lessons can be applied in research on and design of other international cities that have been reshaped by political conflict.
