Abstract
A dapped beam end is a simple D-region. The conventional STM solution is presented, and the extent of the region is discussed. For the SPM, the scheme of stringers and panels is explained and the equilibrating loading on the D-region is derived. The loading due to the beam on the D-region consists of a uniformly distributed vertical shear force, a horizontal compressive force on the upper stringer, and a horizontal tensile force on the lower stringer. Next, all stringer and panel forces are calculated from equilibrium considerations alone, and the stringer reinforcement and the two-way distributed panel reinforcement are detailed. The analysis is repeated for an alternate loading on the D-region, accounting for the smeared diagonal struts in the classical theory of reinforced concrete beams. Finally, the occurrence of a braking force is considered.
