Abstract
This chapter summarizes the contribution of the book with specific attention to the most relevant theoretical and empirical results. From a theoretical perspective, the book contributes to the effort recently undertaken by a number of scholars to theorize and analyse the engagement of EU member states and institutions to integrated practices in foreign and security policy. From an empirical point of view, the volume determines and explains the logic of variations in EU member states and institutions’ engagement to integrated modes of governance through an analysis of the role of the High Representative (HR) in leading EU foreign and security policy. In normative terms, the volume indicates the democratic unaccountability of the EU foreign and security policy-making system. Recent political developments and their implications are also discussed.
