Abstract

The conclusion brings together the key strands of this text to highlight a number of lessons that can be learned in these cases: the importance of viable non-violent protest, the necessity of a calm and measured responses to violent political action, and the potential impact individual actors can have. It is argued that ensuring political channels are kept open, and that the maintenance of the rule of law when dealing with challenges to state authority are central to denying terrorist actors popular support, and preventing them from developing their violent campaigns further.
