Abstract
The chapter introduces the general systems theory as unified method for the characterization of technical items composed of multiple structural parts organized for a given task. At first, simple mechanical and electrical systems are described with the systems approach. Then, the basic features of multidisciplinary systems are considered, which have to be characterized by measurement , testing , and sensor technology.
