Abstract
Materials properties are operational (extrinsic) characteristics of materials . They describe the response of materials to functional loads. The determination of quantity values of material properties requires the combined application of testing , sensing, and measuring. The chapter describes principles and methods to characterize the basic properties of materials, namely mechanical, thermal, electrical, magnetic, and optical properties.
