Abstract
This chapter presents a montage of the doubts, dilemmas and crises players encountered on their journeys towards deciding whether cricket, as an occupation and future identity commitment, was right for them. The personal story lines documented in this chapter reveal players’ growing concerns for their futures both inside and outside cricket as they confront the prospect of continuing or ending their pursuit of childhood aspirations. Central to the chapter is players unearthing what they have learnt about themselves in light of their experiences as student cricketers and ongoing transitions as young people.
