Abstract
This research work deals with the fabrication of Al7075/B4C, Al7075/B4C/Gr and Al7075/B4C/Fly ash aluminium matrix composites and their mechanical and wear properties are analyzed. The work focuses on the effectiveness of incorporation of B4C and Fly ash in the composite for gaining wear reduction and improves the mechanical properties. Stir casting technique is a conventional and cheap method for the fabrication of metal matrix, in which we select stir casting technique due to its simplicity and low expense. Microstructure inspection was used to identify the uniform distribution of reinforcement particles of the matrix by using an optical microscope. Al7075/B4C 7% composite was made hybrid by adding 3% Graphite into it. The presence of graphite in such composites provides the self-lubricating effect, replacing conventional sliding contacts (bearings, sheaves, pistons, pulleys) with them. The test results of composite shows improved hardness, Tensile strength and wear resistance with the addition of B4C and Fly ash. The properties of Hybrid composite containing 7% B4C and 15% Fly ash exhibit Superior wear resistance and mechanical properties compare to other samples.
