Abstract

Europe represents a mosaic of different continental crustal blocks that have been assembled over a prolonged period of geological time. The continent can be roughly divided into two major regions, a stable Precambrian craton in the northeast, known as the East European Platform or Baltica , and a group of crustal blocks successively attached to the old cratonic core.
