Abstract

Analysing ontology usage, as we have noted in the previous chapter, is comprised of four phases: identification, investigation, representation and utilization. The identification phase, which is the focus of this chapter, is responsible for identifying different ontologies that are being used in a particular application area or in a given dataset for further analysis. The ontologies to be analysed fall into two categories:

  • the domain ontology to be analysed for usage is known

  • the domain ontology to be analysed for usage needs to be identified according to application-specific requirements.
