Body Temperature, Energy and Heat Loss
Energy has the units of joules or kJ for food energy values. When energy is transferred from one object to another, we say “work has been done”. How fast the energy is transferred (the rate of change of energy) is known as the power which has units of watts. Heat is the name given to the energy that is transferred from one object to another object that is at a lower temperature. The temperature of an object is a measure of the kinetic energy of its particles – roughly speaking, how fast they are moving. The units of temperature are degrees Celsius (or more correctly Kelvin, where Celsius degrees = Kelvin +273).
