Imaging of Liver Transplantation

Abstract

This chapter reviews the function of imaging in preoperative and postoperative evaluation of liver transplant patients as well as common radiographic findings that may be present during these respective stages of transplant. The role of the radiologist in liver transplantation begins with evaluation of the transplant eligibility of the recipient and with facilitation of operative planning. In the posttransplant period, the primary role of imaging is the diagnosis of complications. Vascular and biliary complications are among the most common complications after transplant, and imaging techniques for their diagnosis are reviewed here. Other common complications with radiographic findings that are reviewed in this chapter include infection, hematoma, and malignancy (e.g., posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder).
