Abstract

Molecular studies are increasingly being applied to a variety of soft tissue tumors for more definitive diagnoses and subtyping. This has been particularly helpful in cytology and small biopsy specimens, which may lack defining histological features and have notoriously been challenging. Thus, the expanding realm of molecular tests available in soft tissue tumors has allowed us to not only provide a pattern-based diagnosis but to provide more definitive subtyping. In this chapter, we describe the variety of tests available and how they can be applied in bone and soft tissue lesions diagnosed on cytological material.
