Melanoma of the Ear Canal and Temporal Bone

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Temporal Bone Cancer

Abstract

Melanoma comprises about 5% of cutaneous malignancies and its incidence is increasing. While the external ear is a common site of melanoma for the head and neck, the ear canal, middle ear, inner ear, and cerebellopontine angle are rare sites for melanoma to occur primarily. These sites can also be involved with metastatic melanoma. This chapter discusses the evaluation and management of melanoma that affects the ear canal and temporal bone.
